Prep Teacher
Dina Nona is a dedicated Prep teacher who has been an invaluable member of the Mater Dei team for 11 years. Dina's personal journey of moving overseas as a young child inspired her to become a teacher and make a difference in the lives of her students, just as her teachers did for her when she first arrived in Australia.
Reflecting on her early years at school, Dina fondly remembers the warmth and support she received from her teachers as she learned to navigate a new language and culture. "I had wonderful teachers growing up who helped me learn English and catch up with the rest of my classmates," she reminisced. This profound impact motivated her to pursue a career in education, with a firm determination to provide the same nurturing environment for her students.
Dina's goal as a Prep teacher is not only academic - she seeks to cultivate an atmosphere where each child feels special and valued for their unique talents and qualities. "I always wanted to help others and ensure all children in my class know that they are all special and to appreciate their uniqueness and their talents."
For Dina, teaching is not just a profession; it's a calling to shape young minds and instil a love for learning that students will carry throughout their lives. Her wish for her students is simple "to be effective, independent, lifelong learners who have a love of learning."
When asked about what she loves most about being a staff member at Mater Dei, her answer was the wonderful community – the amazing staff and families who come together to create a supportive and nurturing environment.
