As the year draws to a close, it is with immense pride and a profound sense of joy that I reflect on the remarkable achievements of Mater Dei Catholic Primary School in 2023. Our school has excelled in various areas and significantly strengthened its commitment to fostering a nurturing and inclusive educational environment.
Let us take a moment to celebrate some of our collective successes and milestones.
Academic Excellence
Our students showcased exceptional debating skills, securing victories in 4 out of 5 debates in the Queensland Debating Union Competition. Their capacity for critical thinking and persuasive argumentation has indeed set a new standard of excellence.
In the Maths Olympiad, our Senior Primary students, led by Year 6 student Mabel with a near-perfect score of 19 out of 20, demonstrated outstanding problem-solving skills. They have ranked in the top ranks in Australia and New Zealand, a testament to their dedication and intellectual skill.
Our partnership with the University of Melbourne for a comprehensive seven-day professional learning program significantly enhanced our teachers’ expertise in current evidence-based early years literacy practices. This collaboration marks a pivotal step in forging a brighter future for our students.
The completion of Phase 4 of the BCE School Improvement Review marked a significant milestone, with Mater Dei receiving commendation for its excellence in evidence-based pedagogical practices, further affirming our unwavering commitment to high-quality education.
Sporting Achievements
In the sporting arena, our athletes have been spectacular. We triumphed the Zone 4, B School category winning the Overall Percentage Trophy in Swimming, dominated as champions in Cross Country, and achieved a commendable 3rd place in Athletics.
Our teams' remarkable performance in the QCE Cup Netball Carnival, securing both 2nd and 4th places, exemplified teamwork and sportsmanship at its finest.
Musical Prowess
The Senior Choir and Guitar Ensemble's achievement of Silver in the prestigious 2023 Queensland Catholic Schools & Colleges Music Festival highlighted their melodic talents and dedication. This accomplishment reflects the hard work and passion of our students and music faculty.
STEM Innovations
In the realm of STEM, Mater Dei established a benchmark. Our victories in the BCE STEM Mad Competition, including the Executive Directors Award and the Andy Thomas Foundation Space Award at the STEM Mad Nationals, underscore our innovative approach and commitment to scientific excellence.
Entrepreneurial Spirit
Our students' entrepreneurial skills shone brightly as they clinched 1st place in the 3rd Annual BCE Schools Pitch Competition. Their creativity and strategic thinking were evident, showcasing their potential as future business leaders.
Vision and Mission
We have embarked on a comprehensive review of our school's Vision and Mission, actively seeking input from parents and carers. This collaborative approach ensures we continue to provide the best possible outcomes for our students, aligning our goals with the needs and aspirations of our community.
A Future Bright with Promise
Looking forward to 2024, we are filled with anticipation and excitement for what the future holds. Our achievements in 2023 have laid a strong foundation for continued success and growth.
